I read a lot of great things last year...and not so great things. There were books that wowed me, and books that should've wowed me but left me underwhelmed. When funds ran low, I rediscovered the library and now at any given time there's three books on my desk waiting to be read. I stepped outside my favorite genres and authors and entered new worlds and met some incredible--and unforgettable--characters. I checked The Book Smugglers daily to find new books to read.

I read a Stephen King novel for the first time, as well as Neil Gaiman. (Two books for Gaiman!) I finally read Jane Eyre. Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan Trilogy ended this year, but I started other series to fill the gap. I found and loved and raved about Patrick Ness's Walking Chaos Trilogy. I've added Connie Willis and Rick Yancey's Monstrumologist series as MUST BUYS! (I can't believe I have to wait another year for the next Monstrumologist novel. Quick, Doctor, come pick me up in your TARDIS!) Markus Zusak's The Book Thief made me cry; I laughed my way through Bite Me by Christopher Moore. Then again, I can always count on Moore to make me laugh. Entwined by Heather Dixon made me swoon and believe that romance in YA doesn't have to be insta-love, that slow burning love is the best. Because of the 2011 Debut Author Series I supported first time novelist, as well as found many, many new authors to get excited about.

So, books of 2012, you have a lot of work to do.
